Having done this type of thing before, what benefit are you going to
receive with polling the CPE/IAD directly? Why not just poll the other
(near) end of the connection (presumably T1/T3)?
I still had a couple thousand edge routers to poll, but that drastically
reduced the number of devices. And as far as the discovery process, I'm
sure there's some way you could break down the list and run multiple
copies of rtgtargmkr.pl or its available variants. Of course this means
you'll probably end up running multiple rtgpoll processes, but that's
not necessarily a bad thing either. None of this means you have to have
separate databases though.
Of course, in no way am I discouraging you from your proposed project.
It may indeed be handy.
