Its not the poll, its the plot. MRTG uses rrd databases, which use
averages of averages, RTG plots counters directly, which is more
accurate.
Advantages of rrd is database size, won't grow, as older data is
averaged, taking less space. Mysql size will grow, but with lots of
disk space, no problems.

It's been a long while since I've used MRTG, but isn't MRTG's default
setting to assume missing values were the same as the last received
value,
whereas RTG chooses to not record a value at all? A few missing polls
here
and there...that could account for MRTG's numbers being slightly higher
than
RTG's. As to which method results in more accurate numbers...I guess it
would depend on your point of view.
