which was always my concern and why i tried not to fork the project.
unfortunately, the owners never kept up on dispensing commit privs within
the SF project so i suppose there's no time like the present.

given that cacti has used RTG as a code base for their poller, it might
be worth it to check out what they've done or form a combined project.

forwarding porting the y!rtg code is not something i have time for now,
but taking out parts of it piecemeal would probably be easier than porting
the whole patch -- some of the features have been overcome by events.
